Degas

Edward Degas, 1834 - 1917 Lived and worked in Paris..
In 1855, Degas met Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres, whom he revered, and whose advice he never forgot: "Draw lines, young man, and still more lines, both from life and from memory, and you will become a good artist."(Wikipedia.org)
''Ballet Dancer, Seen from Behind'' mid 1970s.  This is an excellent example of his beautiful drawings.

And this drawing ''A Nude Woman Drying Herself, Seen from Behind is another example of his great drawing skills

These drawings are the bases of many of his actual completed paintings.  He worked extensively at many different locations in order to obtain material for his paintings.  Places such as horse racing venues, the ballet, and resturants and cafes.

His drawings specifically related to his paintings in comparison to other artists who paint for the benefit of illustrating items such as plants, flowers, trees, animals etc.

One of these artists who draws to inform others is a japanese artist named Keiko Tokunaga.  He began drawing oak trees in Japan. It took nearly 10 years to draw all common Oak trees in Japan and a book was published in 2004 called “Pictorial Encyclopedia of Oaks in Japan”.

This is a great example of very detailed drawing.
